Job Summary

As a Senior Policy Advisor, Shipping, you will help to facilitate and execute on critical policy initiatives identified in the ICC Operational Plan and the current ICC General Assembly Declaration. Working on our policy team, you will play a critical role in enhancing the current ICC Canada circumpolar presence on the issues of marine conservation, shipping and providing policy support to other areas as necessary. An understanding and awareness of the broader circumpolar Arctic policy and research landscape is key to your success.

Arctic shipping is a priority area for the Inuit Circumpolar Council Canada (ICC). As such the ICC is actively engaged in shipping activities and research from the International Maritime Organization (IMO) to Inuit Nunangat, Inuit Nunaat and across the circumpolar Arctic. The Qanittaq Clean Arctic Shipping Initiative (“Qanittaq”) is a unique partnership, co-led and co-developed by Memorial University and the Inuit Circumpolar Council (ICC) Canada.

Job Summary

The Arctic Shipping Manager will lead all shipping related activities within ICC and provide leadership and project management for Qanittaq. The Arctic Shipping Manager will work closely with ICC leadership, staff, consultants, the administrative team at Memorial University and other project partners to oversee and facilitate successful implementation shipping file and the Qanittaq initiative.

This position will also work as part of the ICC team across various policy to provide value an expertise in protecting and advancing the rights and interests of Inuit in Inuit Nunaat – the circumpolar Inuit homeland. This position will act as a liaison between the four Inuit Nunangat Regional Offices and the international ICC offices, various government departments relevant to Arctic shipping, academics and Inuit organizations on research and policies related to the responsible areas.
